Like a window into the water
I dive these forests. The light coming down through the kelp is exactly how it feels down there.

Meet the artist
Jun TakedaUnderwater photographer · Monterey, California
I free-dive the kelp forests off Monterey and Big Sur and shoot on a single breath, around noon, when the sun is high enough to reach the floor.
“Under the canopy, light falls the way it does in a cathedral.”

The skin tones are right
Warm without going orange. Semi gloss keeps the reflections down in our bright living room.

Matte suits ink
No glare, and the paper texture of the original comes through. It reads like a painting on the wall, not a photo of one.
